Blow out preventer (BOP) is a Stack of valve’s used to seal of and control wells. The upper and middle valve(rams) are used for isolating the well only, and the lower valve(shear ram) is used for cutting the wire and isolating the well in case of a blow out, if the other valve’s(rams) fail.
Although there are three different valves, the BOP only count’s as one barrier.
